Hi Tech Billboard Captivates In Times Square

It’s not very often that you see dozens of passers-by completely captivated by a billboard. Even photographing it, filming it and MMSing it to their friends. But that’s exactly what happened when fast-fashion retailer, Forever 21, produced a digital billboard to promote the launch of their flagship store in Times Square.

By cleverly combining pre-recorded footage of models with live surveillance footage of the crowd standing in front of the billboard they could create the effect that the two were interacting. For example, a model might walk into shot, take a photo of the crowd and hold it up for everyone to see. Or the model might select someone out of the crowd, pick them up, kiss them and stuff them in a shopping bag.

For those of you who know Times Square, the new store has taken over the former location of the Virgin Megastore. And they expect to attract 100,000 visitors every day! That’s 7 times more visitors that the Statue of Liberty…
